In your paper, Due no later than the beginning of the second class session, Respond critically and logically to my assertions and suppositions below. You should use citations, reply with opinions by all means, but only when those opinions are rooted in the philosophical and technical knowledge and opinions of people far more experienced. Your answer should be at least 1000 words. You should either respond directly to questions / concerns raised by my original question below, or to those introduced by the answers of other students posted below.

Please proofread your work before you submit it. Please include relevant citations when called for. (I don't care what format.)

The primary focus of this course is Immersive Learning Simulations. What is an ILS? How do ILS' compare to other learning environments. What issues are raised? How have ILS' been used to facilitate learning? What are the limitations? Are the social detractions faced by ILS substantially different than those faced by other media channels upon their introduction?

To narrow your topic, consider answering with a focus on one of the questions below;

Is research into virtual communication methodologies at the expense of research that might solve or ameliorate the serious global issues of our time fundamentally irresponsible?

Is the mitigation of consumption that accompanies the proliferation of these technologies sufficient justification for further work in the field?

Are there potential communications research themes that stand to be more directly beneficial to the 75% of people currently largely disenfranchised and left behind in the digital revolution?

To what extent is the locus of this investigation self-indulgent and impractical, and to what extent is it legitimately contributing to a better future?

How does adding a representation of self to a virtual learning experience change the roles of teachers and learners?

How does the concept of safe failure in ILS / VLE's play a role in engaging otherwise disengaged learners.

What kind of challenges face educators who embrace technologies which are not broadly adopted? Are those challenges different for ILS adoption?
